Floral Dress for Fall

I picked up this Tucker for Target dress at a clothing exchange last spring. My friend never wore it because it was too short for her 5′ 11″ frame. I get it! It’s short on me and I’m barely 5′ 7″.

But with tights, I feel covered up. I didn’t wear this with bare legs in the summer, but it’s a fun fall dress. And with the black background, the floral seems seasonally appropriate.

I paired the dress with merlot tights this time. There are so many colors in the dress that I can wear lots of different tights with it: forest orĀ marigold are my two next choices.

You might recognize my scarf. It’s one of the DIY t-shirt scarves I made a few years ago. I liked the light blue and how it played with the wine and denim.

Without my jacket, the dress is obviously summery, but I’ll just keep layered and keep on wearing my summer clothes into winter.summer dress

Do you make “out of season” clothes work year-round?

I’m joining two link-ups today: Passion for Fashion at Lena B Actually and Friday’s Fab Favorites at Style Elixir. Check out what everyone else is wearing!

  1. Adorbs! I like to transition and cross-season dress too. It extends the wardrobe, ya know?

I think the burgundy tights are fab but the marigold will be so much fun! Can’t wait to see the pairing.

  2. I love that tights give shorter dresses a chance! I own a ton of dresses I only wear with leggings or tights.. this is so cute! Thanks for linking up for Passion For Fashion!

    • I love seeing what all the others are wearing. Your link-up is a lot of fun! I had a dress that I wore with bare legs in Hawaii–it seemed appropriate given the climate. But in Seattle, even in summer, I feel like it’s too sort. I wear it with tights only now. Tights are a great way to get more use out of a dress!

  3. Another example of how colourful tights really make an outfit fab! You’re right, with tights the dress (or skirts) can be short and you feel covered. That’s how I get away with wearing short skirts and tunics. Also, the black background does make the dress more suitable for cooler weather than a white summery background. Add a jacket and boots and you can wear it in fall and winter.

I remember the scarf, a great accessory for this outfit and keeps you warm (but not too hot to wear indoors). I wear summer tank tops with cardigans or an unbuttoned shirt. You’ve given me some ideas to check my wardrobe for what else I can get more wear out of during the fall and winter, because summer is too short and I don’t get to wear everything. :-(

  4. Easy, casual, practical yet chic.. I love this look! And what better way to feel full filled than wearing your own creation.. hats off!

  5. I like that dress – it’s a great pattern. I do the same with short dresses and skirts. I think tights and leggings (and long cardigans) save them!

  6. I have this dress and I totally wear it for fall! I pair it with bright green skinny jeans and an oversized black sweater. – Katy from ModlyChic
